Kanata Legal Mobile App Privacy Policy

Kanata Legal Services respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the Kanata Legal mobile application handles information when you use its immigration information, assessment, checklist, booking, news and contact features.

Information Stored on Your Device

The app may store certain information locally on your device to provide features such as:

saving an unfinished immigration assessment
resuming an assessment
remembering document checklist selections
caching recently retrieved immigration-news headlines

This information is stored locally on your device using application storage.

Kanata Legal does not currently operate a user-account system within the app and does not upload locally saved assessment or checklist progress to a Kanata Legal client database.

Users can clear saved assessment information by using the available Start Over or reset functionality, clearing application data, or uninstalling the application.

Immigration Assessment Information

The Immigration Eligibility Assessment allows users to enter information about topics such as:

current immigration status
education
language ability
Canadian and foreign work experience
job offers
Canadian study
Express Entry
provincial interest
spouse and family circumstances
work permit and PGWP considerations

Assessment information is used to generate preliminary informational results within the application.

Users should not enter highly sensitive information such as:

Social Insurance Numbers
passport numbers
UCI numbers
banking information
payment-card information
medical records
immigration documents
detailed criminal-history information

unless and until Kanata Legal provides a secure feature specifically designed to receive such information.

Client Intake by Email

The app may provide an optional intake feature that allows a user to enter information such as their name, email address, telephone number, country of citizenship, immigration-service interest and case summary.

When the user chooses to submit this information, the app may open the user’s email application with a pre-filled email addressed to Kanata Legal.

The information is not transmitted to Kanata Legal unless the user reviews and sends the email through their email provider.

Information transmitted by email is subject to the privacy and security practices of the user’s email provider and the receiving email service.

Users should not send original documents or highly sensitive information through this feature.

Live Immigration News

The app retrieves publicly available immigration-news information from external sources.

The app may temporarily cache article headlines, links, publication information and related public content to improve reliability and allow previously retrieved headlines to remain visible when a news source is temporarily unavailable.

When a user opens an external news article, the destination website may collect information in accordance with its own privacy policy.

Kanata Legal does not control the privacy practices of third-party news websites.

Appointment Booking

The app provides access to an external appointment-booking service.

When users open or use that service, information submitted through the booking service is handled according to the privacy practices and terms of the booking provider and Kanata Legal.

External Links and Services

The app may open external services including:

web pages
maps
telephone applications
email applications
appointment-booking services
immigration-news websites

These external services operate independently of the Kanata Legal app and may collect information according to their own privacy policies.

Advertising

The Kanata Legal app does not currently contain third-party advertising.

Analytics and Tracking

The current version of the app does not intentionally use third-party advertising or behavioural-tracking systems to create advertising profiles.

If analytics or advertising technologies are introduced in a future version, this Privacy Policy and applicable app-store disclosures will be updated accordingly.

Device Permissions

The current version of the application does not require access to the device camera, microphone, contacts, location or photo library for its core functionality.

Security

Kanata Legal takes reasonable steps to design the application with privacy and security in mind.

However, no device, communication method, online service or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Users should avoid entering or transmitting unnecessary sensitive personal information.

Children

The Kanata Legal app is intended for individuals seeking Canadian immigration information and is not specifically directed to children.

Immigration and Legal Information

The application’s immigration assessments, calculators, checklists and informational materials are provided for general and preliminary informational purposes only.

Using the application does not create a lawyer-client, consultant-client or other professional relationship.

Results do not constitute legal advice and do not guarantee immigration eligibility, approval or any particular outcome.

Canadian immigration laws, policies, programs, selection criteria and processing requirements may change. Users should verify current requirements with official Government of Canada sources and obtain professional advice where appropriate.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

Kanata Legal may update this Privacy Policy when the application’s functionality, data practices, third-party services or legal obligations change.

The effective date at the top of this policy will be updated when material changes are made.
